Initial plan and ideas

The intention of the major project will be focused on current, relatable trends in today's society. The primary research will enable me to understand what different age groups and g opinions are on these current fashion trends and how they are perceived as not all ideas are the same.Another study conducted in 2010 claimed that 35% of people believed their appearance defined their identity, and now two-thirds of people work hard on their appearance. The plan was always to create looks to do with appearance and what people do to change their looks in extreme ways. According to Whitney (2020) body modification is anything you do to your body to change its natural appearance, this ranges from dying your hair and bodybuilding to more extreme measures such as plastic surgery or the more “punk” alternatives like ear shaping, tattoo’s, piercings, implants and scarification.

In recent years, more and more individuals have turned to more extreme measures to improve or enhance their appearance either via simple changes to the hair style and colour, temporary cosmetic procedures like Botox and fillers, and more permanent treatments such as cosmetic surgery, tattoos and body modifications.

Appearance and attractiveness cover a variety of looks that could be created; considering race, culture, gender, age, fashions and eras, the choices are endless.

Designing the final looks will ultimately depend on the results from the primary research. However, initial ideas considered were ageing and growing old gracefully, cosmetic surgery and what can go wrong. Hair and hairstyles with considerations of spiritual and cultural beliefs and eras. Gender identity with drag kings and queens. The initial brainstorming exercise can be seen in figure 4.
